Guy Neil James
Associate
Since 2012, Guy James has worked on a variety of project types, scales, and locations with a careful eye toward shepherding projects from concept through to construction. Since joining Marvel in 2021,Guy has helped develop plans for 240,000 SF of affordable housing and market rate-housing in Brooklyn, NY at 341 10th Street and has overseen construction for a new 25-storey condo building on Pearson St. in Queens, NY. Currently, he is part of the design team for Gowanus Green, which brings over 950 affordable units to Gowanus, Brooklyn across six passive house buildings and bring much needed infrastructural improvements to the site. In addition, he has leveraged his experience in adaptive reuse and restoration on the Hudson River Drainage Chamber Rehabilitation in Cold Spring, NY. Prior to joining Marvel, Guy designed four of the mixed-use buildings at Raleigh Iron Works in Raleigh, NC, including the adaptive reuse of the two centerpiece warehouses, and developed the design of combining three existing buildings on a block in Atlanta, GA for 222 Mitchell, with both projects currently under construction. Outside of the office, Guy volunteers his time to The Architectural League’s Mentorship program. Throughout his career, the question he has returned to most is how architecture can both engage on the contextual human scale and provide a conceptual narrative space.
