Juan Guzmán Palacios, PLA
Director
Juan Guzmán Palacios is a Landscape Architect at Marvel, where he works closely with clients, consultants, and communities to lead public realm and open space projects from concept through construction. His work spans complex urban landscapes, civic open spaces, and detailed site design, with a focus on shaping environments that support both ecological systems and everyday public life.
Juan is particularly interested in how landscape can function as civic infrastructure– supporting environmental processes, community use, and long-term stewardship. He brings a collaborative approach to his work, integrating technical systems, spatial experience, and public engagement to create places that are grounded in context and responsive to the people who use them.
In addition to his professional practice, Juan teaches landscape architecture at the City College of New York, where he explores representation, systems thinking, and the role of design in shaping the public realm. He holds a Master’s degree in Architecture and Urban Design from Columbia University, where he received the Honor Award for Excellence in Design and the Lucille Smyser Lowenfish Memorial Prize. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Georgia, where he received the Georgia ASLA Honor Award for excellence in design.
