Virgen Berrios

Architectural Designer

Virgen Berrios received her bachelor’s degree in Environmental Design at the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus in 2021. She also received her master’s degree in Architecture from the same university in 2022. During her bachelor’s degree she discovered her passion for sustainable design and everything that is derived from it. This way, she carried out her final degree project, Bio-inspired Resilience in the Face of the Energy Crisis through Regenerative Architecture, seeking to gather dynamics that focus on environmental education as a tool against the effects of climate change. Her previous work was aimed at integrating and taking advantage of natural elements such as natural lighting, natural ventilation, vegetation as a sound barrier or to mitigate solar incidence, among other elements. When she developed her final degree project, she brought together these dynamics so that, in addition to being sustainable and lowering the pollution footprint, it regenerates the intervention site and as well, the quality of life of the surrounding community. Virgen seeks, through architecture, to make an impact on the current infrastructure with the intention of caring for and improving the planet. She is interested in designing for human habitability and accessibility as well as for the fauna and flora, so that we can coexist with each other to understand the importance of conserving the environment.
