Meticulous transformation preserves the history of a century-old structure while adapting it to current academic needs.
Initially without a front door, we reintroduced grandeur to its entry, linking it to the city and campus. Responding to a two-story grade difference, we activated the lower levels, creating diverse, engaging routes. Taking inspiration from the original facade, we designed a two-story portal that encouraged both casual and formal interactions. The outcome was an academic center promoting collaboration across five colleges, setting a new standard for on-campus spaces.
The strategic blend of existing and new interior materials, paired with abundant natural light create a calm yet inspiring space for individual or group study or gathering.

A new floor opening creates a double-height space that ties the two public floors of the building together. Sleek modern material interventions highlight the historic steel columns, brick load bearing walls and terra floor structure.

Open lounges pair with glass enclosed break out rooms to provide a variety of spaces for individual or group study or gathering. Flexible furniture and AV technology, with whiteboard wall surfaces aid in effective collaboration.
