Materiality utilized to age gracefully as fine wines do.
Inspired by the parallel rows and rolling contours of a hilly vineyard, Vintry Fine Wines at 200 West Street at Goldman Sachs, (2,200 SF), establishes a new typology of wine store. Utilizing a direct supply service and focusing on select product offerings and expert service, Vintry will have a smaller than typical storage to display ratio. This enables the designs curvilinear forms, the spaced bottles for a visually uncluttered shelving display, and sufficient floor space circulation for tasting events and collection consultation services.
Vintry Fine Wines was completed in the spring of 2012.
Technology is utilized, such as customer touch pads, instant bottle chiller, and wine dispenser, to help navigate product selections and build individual collections.
Each bottle is presented at a slight angle, as though in the hands of a sommelier gracefully showing the label. The bottle seating positions are gradiated to gradually rise and fall, pronouncing the curvalinear forms.
Each bottle is directly lit with a concealed LED light strip, which minimizes visual noise and glare. For each bottle presented, there is space to store the other 11 bottles from the case below.
Using computer aided technologies the display shelving system was designed with divergent curves such that the bottles angle of repose will gradually rise and fall to accommodate different wine and bottle types with dramatic visual effect.
The materials are simple, durable, and rich. Leather wrapped shelves provides warmth and classic elegance at the point of human touch. Corian countertops provide a seamless permanence. Veneer plaster provides a smooth luster.
