Hunter College Library Renovation
Reinventing the second floor of the Leon & Toby Cooperman Library.
This central, invaluable space will be re-purposed to best serve the current students of Hunter College while attracting new students. The proposed programming for the 2nd floor of Hunter Library was developed after multiple listening sessions with CUNY/Hunter leadership and facilities teams, discussions with relevant faculty and staff, campus site visits, conversations with consultants, and research of equivalent programs in other locations. Three new programs will occupy the floor. The library will be a place where students find inspiration, reinvention, and forge their future paths.
The Career Center will move to this floor and expand from its existing space on a rarely traveled floor above the library to be a leading facility for college job seekers and potential employers.
The floor will also include Education Technology resources and a Media Lab to support faculty with online teaching and students with facilities for innovative projects and creative pursuits.
The floor will provide space for tutoring and support for students from the Manhattan Hunter High School.
The north and west facades of the building provide the daylighting and views for the floor. Program areas along these facades have been carefully chosen.
At the center of the floor, at the hub between these three programs, a central Reading Room with warm finishes, thoughtful lighting, and oversized wood study tables will encourage quiet study.
