The Diversion Recovery Tracking system, or “DaRT”, is a unique waste collection system that consolidates pick-up and provides block by block metrics for the tremendous volume of waste and recycling that New Yorkers generate each day. As a tool for both residential and commercial waste, DaRT is easy to operate and gives the city the detailed information necessary to motivate residents and businesses to improve their sustainability practices and better implement existing laws. New York’s density, our lack of back alleys and the demands on our streetscape create unique challenges: DaRT is designed to turn these challenges into an opportunity to make New York a global leader in waste reduction and material recovery.
